Going out by boat from Puno you arrive at the floating islands, built in 1.5 years and last up to 25 years. There are about 40 islands in all but only about 20 are visited by tourists on the others life has stopped and if anybody comes near the islands the population sail away into the middle of the lake
Cusco
Once the Inca Capital now a mix of Inca, Spanish and Peruvian cultures and Architecture. A city full of live and a great place to stay before the start of the Inca Trail
Inca Trail

At last the start of the 3 day Inca Trail. On the right camping the first night on the side of a mountain with spectacular views!!

Start of the second day. Only 1 hour in and already failing.

After 2.5 hours and reaching 3800m above sea level. Only another hour or so and 300m more (well 300m vertically to reach 4100m above sea Level)

Camp on the second night with a stream running down through the camp

3rd day of easy trekking passing many ruins on the way

4th day early morning start (5 am)for the 1 hour walk to reach the Sun Gate and see the spectacular sight of the sun rising and Machu Picchu (this is of course if you are lucky - as you can see I could see about 10m!!)

Finally after a wonderful 3 days trekking we arrive at Machu Picchu!! Cloud covered yes but slowly the clouds lifted and we were met by the wonderful and dramatic views of Machu Picchu
