Trekking - Atacama Trek

11 Days / 10 Nights (Easy/Moderate)

This trekking program, located in the region of San Pedro de Atacama, allows us to discover the Atacama Desert from another perspective. Splendid walks show us the deep face of this region and reveal its most intimate secrets, with the tranquility and beauty that only trekking can offer. Unforgettable hikes are organized in deep canyons, on sand dunes, along rivers, on volcanics rocks, and in the middle of the most beautiful landscapes of this region. This program is for trekking lovers who are looking for an exceptional experience that concludes with a high altitude trek to the top of lascar active volcano (5.580 m).

DAY 1:      (SANTIAGO) -CALAMA-SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA

Reception at Calama airport. Transfer to San Pedro de Atacama. Lunchtime. Hike along the Cordillera      de la Sal up to the Moon Valley  (Valle de la  Luna).  After watching the sunset, we transfer to the hotel. (L)

DAY 2:      SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA-SAN BARTOLO

Visit of the archaeological museum and the archaeological sites of Quitor and Catarpe. Trekking along a beautiful canyon, which leads us to San Bartolo. Camp. (B,L,D)

DAY 3:      SAN BARTOLO-RIO GRANDE

Trekking  to Rio Grande native village, where we set up the camp. (B,L,D)

DAY 4:     RIO GRANDE-MACHUCA

Trekking up the Altiplano to reach Machuca village (6h). Camp. (B,L,D)

DAY 5:     MACHUCA-BAÑOS DE PURITAMA-GEYSERS DEL TATIO

Transfer and small trekking to the hot springs of Puritama (3400m/ 11220ft.), where we enjoy a relaxing bath before continuing to the Geysers del Tatio where  we put up our camp.  (B,L,D)

DAY 6:     TATIO GEYSERS - CASPANA - SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA*

Early departure to watch the geological thermal actvities of the geysers as the sun rises. Nice trekking down to Caspana village. Transfer to San Pedro via Calama. Hotel     (B,L)

DAY 7:     SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA-TILOMONTE-PASTOR

Transfer to Tilomonte Oasis, visiting on the way Toconao, Jerez valley and Atacama Salt lake. Trekking along an Inca trail (4h) to Pastor. Nice views on the Salar de Atacama. Camp. (B,L,D)

DAY 8:       TILOMONTE - MINIQUES LAGOON – SALAR OF CAPUR

We visit Tulan archeological site and the village of Peine. In the afternoon, we drive to the heart of the cordillera, crossing the altiplano and visit Miscanti and Miñiques Lagoons. We continue our travel and set our camp at the Salar de Capur. (B,L,D)

DAY 9:     SALAR DE CAPUR- LEJIA LAGOON

Full day trekking in the altiplano. We border Miscanti Lagoon and skirt the Chiliques and Leña Volcanoes. We soon reach the Lejia Lagoon, a beautiful lake at the foot of the active Lascar Volcano. Camp (4250m). (B,L,D)

DAY 10:     LEJIA LAGOON - LASCAR  - SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA

Short transfer to reach the Lascar Pass (at 4500 m approx.). Full day climb up Lascar volcano. After tasting the feeling of success we drive back down to San Pedro de Atacama. Hotel. (B,L)

DAY 11:     SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA - CALAMA - (SANTIAGO)

Free morning. Transfer to Calama airport. Flight back to Santiago. (B)

Accommodation:

Double rooms can have separate beds or not. A third person depending on the hotel has the possibility of using a sofa bed. Consult for children policy.  

Payment:

Deposit of 30% to guarantee your reservation. The remaining amount must be paid a minimum 30 days before start of the tour. If reservation is made within 30 days of the tour full payment required to make a reservation.   

Cancellation:

Up to 30 days before full refund is given unless the flight tickets have been emitted. In this case there will be a penalty due to the cancellation of the tickets. This depends on the rules of the airline used.  No refund is given when a cancellation is made within 30 days of departure.  

Operation of tour:

Minimum of 1 pax to operate.

Brasil Travel / Melchior & Hodson Ltda and/or agencies involved with the packages, flights and tours shall act only as agents of the tour members in making arrangements for hotels and any other services and do not assume any liability what so ever for any injury, damage, death, loss, accident or delay to persons or property due to an act of God, default by any hotel, company or person rendering any of services included on the tours or flights. Furthermore, no responsability is accepted for quarentine, government restrains, weather or other causes beyond control. No responsability is accepted for any additional expenses, omissions, delays, re-routing or acts of government authority.
